Our commitment to Climate change mitigation

November, 2023

TranzAlpine Honey is the #1 Organic Honey Producer in New Zealand. Our complete supply chain, production transparency and extensive certification list demonstrate our ongoing commitment to climate change mitigation as a farm-to-table organic honey producer.

Here are just some of the ways we show our commitment to sustainability and future food security.

TranzAlpine Honey is in partnership with one of the largest regenerative agriculture projects in New Zealand.

We teamed up with Mt Whitnow Station from the North Canterbury – Successfully restoring the biodiversity, reversing the structural degradation and improving the soil quality to such an effect that we were able to plant over 1000 native Mānuka and Kānuka trees on unforgiving high country land where nothing was able to grow 6 years ago – thanks to the bees restoring the clover through pollination.

Our Hives

  • TranzAlpine Honey only uses renewable, carbon-neutral and sustainable wooden honey frames and beehives
They keep bees warm in the winter and promote longevity
  • The location selection of our hives – a minimum of 5km away from urban suburbs or farming activities – ensures that we meet the stringent organic certification requirements and absolute sustainable integrity
  • Each location of our hives is carefully selected and considered, taking into account the environmental impact on our hives and what native flora will be available for our bees to harvest from
  • As part of our commitment to the ongoing conservation of natural resources, TranzAlpine Honey has agreements and partnerships with landowners on privately owned land that support our crusade to preserve natural bee habitats and maintain pollinator diversity.

Processing and Packaging

  • Our packaging is environmentally friendly, 100% recycled rPet packaging, and sourced locally to reduce our carbon footprint
  • Our processing factory has been converted to a 15kwh solar system with sophisticated solar battery storage, allowing us to be 90% off the grid during peak season
  • We are converting our fleet to 100% EV with nearly 30% of the vehicles being EV/Hybrid. The target is to be 100% EV by 2027.
  • We don’t use any materials derived from hydrocarbons or that contain microplastics
  • We only use ingredients for our honey products, such as the fusion and wellness products, from other certified producers who meet the same rigorous organic certification as we do
  • We use rPet packaging, that’s safer, and more efficient for handling and shipping locally and around the world.

Our Products

  • Our supply chain is 100% transparent – each jar of our certified organic honey is fully traceable to the individual beehive and location
  • All of our products are non-GMO organic certified
  • All of our products are vegetarian Society, USDA organic certification equivalence, HALAL certified and US FDA approved. We are also a Fernmark-licensed brand.
  • Each batch of honey is independently and rigorously tested, audited and certified by MPI and BioGro™ NZ. Everything is processed and packed in New Zealand.

Our Bees

  • We do not artificially feed or medicate our bees
  • Our honey bees are left with more than enough honey for themselves
  • We don’t use any synthetic chemicals or any type of antibiotics on the beehives or anywhere near our bees – which are both common practices in non-organic apiculture
  • TranzAlpine bees pollinate thousands of hectares of Mid Canterbury crop farms that produce world-renowned premium quality seeds and oils from our region.

Education

  • Every year we invite local schools to tour our production facilities to raise awareness about biodiversity, bees and honey
  • We set up and place beehives on the school grounds of local schools. To give kids an opportunity to learn first-hand about the importance of pollinators and explore beekeeping career opportunities
  • We host record numbers of apiculture students from around the world who travel to New Zealand to learn about organic beekeeping from us.
